S. Korean riot tour: Hong Kong anti-WTO protests

South Korean anti-WTO protesters collect shields to return to Hong Kong police officers after a clash near the Hong Kong Convention and Exibition Center in Hong Kong Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005. Dozens of South Korean protesters, some with plastic wrap over their eyes to protect them from pepper spray, clashed with riot police Wednesday for the second straight day at a World Trade Organization meeting. South Korean workers and farmers fight with Hong Kong riot police as they try to march toward the main venue of the World Trade Organisation meeting in Hong Kong December 13, 2005. Riot police used pepper spray to hold back anti-globalisation protesters in Hong Kong on Tuesday as a meeting of ministers from WTO nations got underway at a convention centre about 1 km away.

LOL OMG, I was wondering what someone was going to do to protect him or herself from pepper spray! Plastic wrap! Ingenius. Also, I read that they used pepper foam.

I doubt the plastic wrap was very effective. I think the stolen police sheilds likey worked much better. Don't know why the protesters would return them though.

maybe they stole so much police equipment and captured so many cops behind their lines that they had an impromptu prisoner/equipment exchange negotiation for the release of their comrades?

that is realy strange. i would have tried to smuggle them back to south korea some way to aid in the struggle they face there.

If anyone is wondering, I'm updating this post with the more recent photos at the top. It's been three days of protest / fighting with the Hong Kong Police thus far, and it looks like it's esculating with the S. Koreans breaking out thier famous long poles and breaking through a police line yesterday.

This makes the Seattle 1999 anti-WTO riots look like a polite debate of ideas. Who says the anti-globalization movement is dead?

It hasn't been dead outside of the U.S., but it's been on life support in the U.S.

You'd also go to prison for a long time for much less than this in the US. That said, let me repeat, riot porn rules.
