This photo reminds me of the famous 1990 "Lasanga" staredown photo in Kahensatake (Oka, Quebec, Canada).

Nice blog. riot porn, what happened in Oka, Quebec in 1990? Haven't heard of it. Both look like militaries.
In short a indegenous community (of the Mohawk Nation) defended their land from an invasion by the provincail police, the Surete de Quebec, and later the Canadian military. Lots more information is available, I suggest searching google.

They were protecting their land from being turned over for a golf course.
...and the stand-off started when the canada's swinest shot one of their own.
