Burning cop car of the day

Men run past a burning vehicle belonging to the European Police Force (EUPOL) in Kinshasa. Backers of Jean-Pierre Bemba, the defeated presidential candidate in the Democratic Republic of Congo, ran riot at Kinshasa's Supreme Court before UN peacekeeping soldiers halted the violence.

Firefighters and flares

Firefighters dressed in their gear and helmets march during a demonstration, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006 in Paris. Several thousand firefighters marched through Paris on Tuesday to demand a monthly bonus and retirement with full benefits at the age of 55. Firefighters' unions want bonuses of 72 euro (US$92) a month. The protesters let off fireworks and clouds of green, orange and white smoke and sounded sirens and horns as they marched.
